2024 was an eventful and productive for the Enershare project. The consortium partners ensured that the project and its objectives received significant visibility at major global events. This allowed us to discuss our goal of developing, deploying, and validating the first-ever Reference Implementation of the European Common Energy Data Space through a variety of cross-domain pilots. These efforts aim to facilitate, accelerate, and enable the transition to a smarter, integrated, decarbonized, and participatory energy system for the future.
Let’s explore some of the key highlights from 2024, from events and beyond!

The session covered the project’s recent technical achievements, current challenges, and the implications of the Enershare Data Space for the data economy and energy value chain.
India Smart Utility Week: For the second year, Enershare was proud to participate in India Smart Utility Week (ISUW). At the EU booth, we showcased our latest projects and initiatives, highlighting the demand for innovative energy solutions. The event, held from March 12 to 16, 2024, gathered industry leaders and stakeholders in the smart utility sector. We contributed to discussions on smart utilities and energy innovation, and attendees learned about our efforts to develop Data Spaces for the energy sector in Europe and beyond.
A Glimpse of Europe Innovation: Enershare participated in the workshop “A Glimpse of Europe Innovation,” held on May 28, 2024. The event was organized by SESKO Electrotechnical Standardization in Finland, with co-organizers AIOTI and EUCloudEdgeIoT, along with workshop facilitators Antonio Kung from Trialog, AIOTI, and OpenContinuum. During the session “Enablers and Use Cases for Energy Data Spaces,” Charukeshi Joglekar from the Enershare consortium and the Team Automated Energy Systems at Fraunhofer FIT presented the Enershare Reference Architecture. They addressed its alignment with existing standards and the role of Digital Twins in Energy Data Spaces, engaging a global audience of energy industry leaders.
2nd Symposium on Interoperability and Data Spaces: Massimo Bertoncini, Senior R&D Opportunities Manager for Digital Energy at Engineering, and Sonia Jimenez Moreno, Director of Data Space Technology at IDSA, presented Enershare at the 2nd Symposium on Interoperability and Data Spaces, which took place on June 6, 2024, in Trieste, Italy. The project experts focused on the interoperability of Data Spaces, particularly in the European energy sector. They introduced the Enershare Reference Architecture and discussed governance and participatory business models for a global audience. The event brought together thought leaders, executives, and innovators from various sectors to exchange ideas and promote collaboration.
ECCE Europe Conference: On September 6th, Charukeshi Joglekar presented at the ECCE Europe Conference in Darmstadt, Germany. She participated in a session focused on cybersecurity in power electronics-dominated grids, discussing “Secure and Sovereign Data Exchange in Future Energy Systems,” which aligns with Enershare’s mission. During her presentation, she emphasized the significance of cybersecurity and the role of data exchange in enhancing system security. She also provided practical use cases for data spaces in energy systems dominated by power electronics.
FIWARE Global Summit: On September 18th and 19th, Enershare participated in the 10th FIWARE Global Summit held in Naples, Italy. During the event, we showcased our mission at the Exhibition Hub, where we engaged with over 400 attendees from diverse sectors, including public administrations, academia, entrepreneurship, and ICT companies. Our discussions focused on the creation of a Common European Energy Data Space aimed at addressing challenges and enhancing the digitalization, security, and sustainability of the energy industry. Massimo Bertoncini led the Smart Energy session titled “Energy Data Sharing as an Enabler for Accelerating the Green Energy Transition.”
Enlit Europe: In November 2024, we were proud to showcase our work at Enlit Europe, the premier European forum that highlights the latest news, developments, challenges, and solutions in the energy industry. We exhibited alongside our project partners, the Basque Energy Cluster and TECNALIA Research & Innovation. Each year, Enershare presents its latest findings on the development, deployment, and validation of the first-of-its-kind Reference Implementation of the European Common Energy Data Space.
Data-driven Services in the Data Space
In October 2024, we launched a video campaign to highlight the impactful data-driven services offered by Enershare Data Space. We invited, and continue to invite, everyone interested in understanding how Enershare supports energy sovereignty and facilitates secure data exchange to explore our resources page. This page showcases a variety of demonstrations of Enershare services developed by our project partners.
NTUA and IPTO Memorandum of Understanding
In November 2024, the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) in the context of the Enershare project to advance European energy data innovation through data space technologies. This collaboration allows IPTO’s datasets from the “Operation & Market Files API” to be accessible within the Enershare Data Space. This promotes transparency and supports the EU’s plan for a unified energy data space, providing energy stakeholders with valuable insights into Greece’s energy operations, market dynamics, and grid performance.
Blueprint of the Common EU Energy Data Space
In mid-2024, the blueprint for the Common EU Energy Data Space (CEEDS) version 1.0 was released. This document outlines the concept and provides strategies for implementing a Common European Energy Data Space. Its main goal is to enhance energy sector data infrastructures by adopting data space solutions, improving the efficiency and reliability of energy systems, and benefiting all stakeholders. The focus is on creating a framework for innovative, financially viable business use cases and the architecture needed to support them. This architecture aims to connect existing legacy data systems with federated data spaces, including necessary technical specifications.
In July 2024, the latest version, version 2.0, of the blueprint was released.
Towards Innovative Power-to-Gas Investments in Greece – Novel Simulation Scenarios and Assessment Framework
As part of the development of the “TwinP2G” service for Pilot 4 (DEPA) within the Enershare pilots, a service designed to provide a Digital Twin (DT) for customized and optimized simulations of Power-to-Gas investments, the Decision Support Systems Laboratory of NTUA has produced the first in a series of research on Power-to-Gas investments for the Greek energy sector. The study, titled “Towards Innovative Power-to-Gas Investments in Greece – Novel Simulation Scenarios and Assessment Framework,” reviews potential use cases for renewable hydrogen solutions and presents cutting-edge research findings on Power-to-Gas (PtG) technologies, along with their advantages and challenges.
The study concludes by outlining the key performance indicators—technical, economic, and environmental—that must be measured to evaluate the success and overall performance of these investments.
